ABC, in partnership with The Orthotics and Prosthetics Foundation for Education and Research (The Foundation), would like to congratulate Jessica Smit, CPO, as the recipient of the 2024 ABC Resident Travel Award.
Jessica was selected for her National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE) residency project and received $2,500 to attend and present her research at the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (The Academy) 2024 Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium in Chicago, March 6-9.

Jessica received her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Michigan State University followed by her Master’s in Orthotics and Prosthetics from Eastern Michigan University in 2020. Jessica completed her orthotics residency at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and her prosthetics residency at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago where she now continues to work as a clinician. Jessica earned her CPO credential from ABC in November 2023.
The ABC Resident Travel Award Program supports prosthetic and orthotic residents’ travel to the Academy Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium so that they may present their NCOPE directed study report or project.
“ABC is thrilled to be able to partner with The Foundation to provide this award and invest in future O&P practitioners,” said Billy Lester, CPO, ABC Board President. “We would also like to extend our appreciation to all the reviewers for this year’s submissions.”
