Effective January 1, 2024, Medicare began covering lymphedema compression treatment items, including compression garments. ABC is encouraged that CMS recognizes the value of these items and services, and we have received numerous inquiries on this topic.

To clarify, many ABC credential holders already have these items within their scope of practice. Certified Mastectomy Fitters have a long history of providing lymphedema sleeves to post-mastectomy patients, as specifically outlined in the CFm Scope of Practice. Certified Orthotists, Certified Pedorthists, and Certified Orthotic Fitters are also qualified to provide compression garments.

The good news is that many ABC-certified professionals are already well-positioned to meet this growing patient need without any additional certification requirements.
