ABC was proud to participate in AOPA’s 2025Virtual Policy Forum, held May 6–15. This two-week event brought together more than 83 O&P professionals, patients and advocates from 26+ states to push for stronger federal support of the profession’s top legislative priorities, including:
A Collaborative, Education Experience
The Forum kicked off with a virtual education session held May 6 featuring policy experts from AOPA, the National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics and Prosthetics (NAAOP) and the Amputee Coalition, who provided insights into the evolving political climate, outlined key O&P policy initiatives, and shared best practices for both in-person and virtual advocacy. The session concluded with an inspiring discussion led by Senator Tammy Duckworth.
Attendees also met virtually with their U.S. senators, representatives and congressional staff to discuss the importance of accessible and high-quality orthotic and prosthetic care. In total, attendees met with more than 100 lawmakers and legislative staff at 52 Senate meetings and 62 House meetings.
Why a Virtual Format?
According to AOPA, this year’s shift to a virtual format was strategic, influenced by the introduction timeline of the Medicare O&P Patient-Centered Care Act, changes in congressional leadership, and the desire to expand participation among professionals, students and patients. Additionally, by eliminating travel and cost barriers, more advocates were able to join from across the country, giving the event a diverse and powerful collective voice.
