Feb 27, 2026, 14:58 by Megan Matijevich

On February 25, 2026, CMS announced the imposition of a 6-month nationwide moratorium of Medicare enrollment on newly enrolling DMEPOS medical supply companies.

This moratorium is effective immediately. No new DMEPOS suppliers of the seven affected supplier types (see list below) and no new practice locations for those types will be enrolled in Medicare unless the National Provider Enrollment (NPE) contractor received the supplier’s enrollment application prior to the effective date.

The seven supplier types are as follows:

  • Medical supply comany
  • Medical supply company with orthotics personnel
  • Medical supply company with pedorthic personnel
  • Medical supply company with prosthetics personnel
  • Medical supply company with prosthetic and orthotic personnel
  • Medical supply company with registered pharmacist
  • Medical supply company with respiratory therapist

What This Means for ABC-Accredited Facilities

If your facility is already enrolled in Medicare, your enrollment status will not be affected. If you plan to open a new O&P facility and enroll it in Medicare, please be sure to select the appropriate category on the 855s form. Selecting any of the categories above will result in your enrollment form being denied.

For more information, please refer to the Federal Register Notice and the Provider Enrollment Moratoria/Moratorium Q&As. Questions regarding the moratorium should be directed to your National Provider Enrollment (NPE) contractor.
