The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics, Inc. (ABC) announces the release of its updated Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics Scope of Practice. The Scope of Practice is reviewed periodically by a group of Certified Orthotists, Prosthetists and Pedorthists to ensure its continued relevancy to the profession. Setting the standards that are the benchmarks for the profession, ABC credentialed individuals use the scope of practice to define the parameters of their patient care. A copy of the Scope of Practice is available for download at ABC’s website.
Changes to the Scope of Practice include a comprehensive definition of Supervision and Privileging of Non-Credentialed Caregivers, as well as a Supervision Matrix for Custom Fabricated and Custom Fit-High Levels of Care.
“It was my privilege to serve as Chairman of ABC’s Scope of Practice Committee. The material covered impacts accreditation standards, state licensure standards, educational curriculum and ABC’s certification exams. The Scope of Practice will continue to be periodically updated as the practice of orthotics, prosthetics and pedorthics continues to evolve,” says, Rick Parr, CPO, FAAOP, Chairman Scope of Practice Committee.
ABC is the orthotic, prosthetic and pedorthic credentialing body that defines the scope of practice for ABC credentialed professionals. It sets the standards that are the benchmark of the profession.
