In continued efforts to advance the value of ABC accreditation and certification, ABC spent three days in June promoting ABC standards and www.oandpcare.org at the Case Management Society of America's annual conference.
ABC representatives used this opportunity to inform and educate national case managers on the need for using ABC and state licensure standards to verify the qualifications of their O&P providers. Hundreds of copies of the ABC Registry and Reference Guide were distributed, as case managers were genuinely excited to have a useful O&P resource.
"Many case managers and insurance company representatives are unaware of their state's licensure regulations and the national standards of ABC," said Tom Derrick, ABC's public relations manager. "We're here to educate these case managers on the need to verify ABC certification and accreditation, and to promote two key resources- www.oandpcare.org and the ABC Registry and Reference Guide. The response from case managers has been overwhelmingly positive, culminating in the CMSA vice-president thanking ABC and our extolling the virtues of our standards in her closing statements to the entire conference."
For case managers, www.oandpcare.org serves as a source for information on the O&P profession and standards, in addition to providing a search function for finding accredited facilities and certified practitioners.
In addition to exhibiting at the CMSA conference, ABC will be participating as a sponsor and exhibitor at the Amputee Coalition of America’s Educational Conference and Expo this August in Dallas. ABC staff and volunteers will be focusing on educating patients and attendees on the value of seeking quality care through an ABC accredited facility and in promoting the new patient section of www.oandpcare.org. Developed in consultation with the ACA, this new section provides resources for amputees and patients requiring the services of certified O&P professionals.
