Fitters

 

Fitter Continuing Education Requirements

The following requirements have been establish​​ed for maintaining your certification. Please consult the Guide to Maintaining Your Certification for additional information.

 Orthotic Fitters (CFo)

  • ​​​A total of 50 credits must be earned during your five-year cycle for your time limited certificate.
  • A minimum of 34 credits must be Category I Scientific.
  • A maximum of 16 credits may Business and/or Category II Scientific.
  • Business credits can be earned in either Category I or II, but do not count toward satisfying the 34 Category I Scientific credits.

 Mastectomy Fitters (CFm)

  • ​​A total of 10 credits must be earned during your five year cycle in either Category I or Category II for your time limited certificate.
  • A maximum of 2 credits may be Business.

 Orthotic/Mastectomy Fitters (CFom)

  • A total of 60 credits must be earned during your five-year cycle for your time limited certificate.
  • A minimum of 40 credits must be Category I Scientific.
  • A maximum of 20 credits may be Business and/or Category II Scientific.
  • Business credits can be earned in either Category I or II, but do not count toward satisfying the 40 Category I Scientific credits.
  • When extending your credential from CFo or CFm to CFom, the  most recent certification year will determine continuing education effective date. For example, if your orthotic certification was awarded in 2013 and your mastectomy certification was awarded in 2014, your continuing education effective date for your five year cycle would be 2014.

 Therapeutic Shoe Fitters (CFts)

  • ​​​​A total of 25 credits must be earned during your five-year cycle for your time limited certificate.
  • A minimum of 17 credits must be Category I Scientific.
  • A maximum of 8 credits may be Business and/or Category II Scientific. 
    Business credits can be earned in either Category I or II, but do not count toward satisfying the 17 Category I Scientific credits.​

 Failure to Satisfy the Requirements

If you do not comply with the continuing education requirements by the end of your five-year cycle, your credential will be suspended for up to one year.

ABC will notify you of deficient credits and impending suspension. Following receipt of notification, you will be required to notify ABC within 30 days of your intent to earn the deficient credits, plus additional penalty credits within the current calendar year (see above), of which approximately 2/3 must be Category I Scientific credits. Failure to provide ABC with this notice of intent may result in revocation of your certification.

During suspension, you are not permitted to use your ABC certification title or number, you will not receive complimentary publications, nor will you be included in the ABC directory. In addition, your annual renewal fees will be temporarily waived.
