Dennis Dillard’s reputation for efficiency and speed precedes him. At his first ABC Board meeting in 2013, he was presented with a Speedy Gonzalez doll for his super speedy responses to all of the pre-meeting tasks. Dennis now keeps Speedy on his desk in Peoria, Ill. to remind him of the things he values about volunteering with ABC.
“It’s a very efficient organization. They don’t waste time, and they get things done. You don’t sit around having a two hour conversation about something that can be done in five minutes. Even more, everyone feels professionally and personally involved. It’s a family organization,” he says.
Dennis chairs the Pedorthic Exam Committee, which directs the certification test for pedorthics. He helps write questions, review the test to make sure it’s up-to-date and analyses the psychometric material. He also serves as the Board liaison to the Facility Accreditation Committee, which manages ABC’s facility accreditation program.
“Our patients depend on us to be around for the long haul, which is why we appreciate having people like Dennis involved in long-range strategic planning activities,” says Jim Wynne, CPO, FAAOP, president of ABC’s Board of Directors. “He sees his role as helping to ensure that the profession is solid and intact for years to come to serve our patient population, which is what it’s really all about.”
Dennis calls ABC “the gold standard,” but that all starts with volunteers like him. They have always been and continue to be the backbone of our profession.
