 Emeritus Status

Emeritus is an inactive/retired status reserved for those certified individuals who satisfy all of the following requirements:

  • Have officially retired from patient care and are not engaged in any employment arrangement using the ABC credential
  • Have attained 25 years of continuous active practice in good standing with ABC/BCP
  • Are at least 55 years of age or are prevented from continuing to practice due to health reasons
  • Must be in good standing at the time the emeritus status request is made

Individuals granted Emeritus status are not permitted to use the ABC credential for purposes of patient care that results in professional remuneration or for the financial and/or business benefit of an orthotic or prosthetic facility.

Individuals may continue to use their credential designated with the modifier (E) when providing patient care for humanitarian or charitable purposes. The annual fee is waived for individuals with Emeritus status and a new certificate will be issued. Individuals will continue to receive a complimentary subscription to the O&P Almanac and the Mark of Merit newsletter.
