Public Outreach
The mission of the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics, Inc. (ABC) is to establish and promote the highest standards of organizational and clinical performance in the delivery of orthotic, prosthetic, and pedorthic services. Execution of this mission involves communicating the importance of ABC standards to orthotic, prosthetic and pedothic consumers and the general public.
A key component of ABC's Public Outreach is fulfilled by the two public members on the ABC Board of Directors, Tom Coakley and Dr. Kristi Wilson-Hill.
ABC's public members are full voting members of the Board of Directors, specifically tasked with representing the interests of consumers, patients and other public groups having an interest in ABC affairs. Public members participate in providing guidance and overall direction to ABC's management staff, and play a fundamental role in outreach to groups such as the Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) and the Disabled Veterans of America (DAV).
Tom and Kristi's role as public representatives includes speaking engagements at O&P events, participation in amputee educational conferences and day-to-day communication with the general public.
