Pedorthist Requirements

BCP/ABC Comparison Chart

To receive credits for courses you attend that do not appear on the listing on the previous page under "ABC Category I Approved Courses", please use the ABC Category II form. This information should be sent to ABC at 330 John Carlyle Street, Suite 210, Attn: Continuing Education Department, Alexandria, VA 22314.

While ABC is working very hard to expedite this transition, we would like to make you aware of a few differences. To review a chart of how credits were awarded through the BCP and how they will be awarded by ABC, please click on the link to the right called "BCP/ABC Comparison Chart". Data maintained by the BCP will be electronically transferred to ABC. All BCP credits will be converted to ABC credits. New MCE statements will be mailed to all C.Peds in good standing as soon as the conversion is complete and the data has been verified.

  1. ABC uses the term MCEs when referring to credits instead of CEPs.

  2. ABC tracks continuing education requirements on a five-year cycle instead of three. Therefore, instead of needing 32 credits every 3 years, pedorthists will need 55 credits every 5 years.

  3. ABC provides new certificates every five (5) years instead of each year.

  4. The effective (start) date of your current credit cycle will remain the same. However, you will have a two year extension in which to earn the additional credits. Your new "MCE Expiration Date" will appear on the bottom right hand corner of your new certificate and the top right of your MCE statement.

  5. In addition to setting a new credit requirement to coincide with the new MCE expiration date, restrictions have been placed on the number of Business credits that will be applicable to your recertification. A maximum of 20 credits under Business and/or Category II may be used. For additional information, please see "Pedorthist Requirements". This restriction is consistent with all other ABC credentials.

  6. ABC uses the term "Category I" for courses that have been pre-approved and will be submitting attendance information for each AM and PM session directly to ABC. YOU MUST SIGN IN FOR EACH AM AND PM SESSION TO RECEIVE CREDIT. "Category II" is reserved for courses that have not submitted to ABC for pre-approval and will not be submitting information on your behalf. You must be sure to include proof of attendance and a copy of the agenda to determine an appropriate number of credits with the Category II form.

  7. New certification numbers will be assigned to all CPeds in good standing. This new number will appear on your new ABC certificate and must be used when signing in for courses.
