Recognition of ABC Standards
ABC certification and facility accreditation are recognized by federal, state and private agencies for the establishment of standards for the orthotic, prosthetic and pedorthic profession. ABC’s certification process has been approved by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) since 1983. ABC facility accreditation is recognized by many states and major insurance companies.
When an ABC-certified practitioner is consulted, patients, payers and managed care providers alike are assured that the patient is receiving care from a practitioner who has met ABC’s rigorous requirements. ABC certification and accreditation are the standards by which consumers can make informed decisions about both their place of care and their provider of orthotic and prosthetic patient care.
For the practitioner or facility, the ABC credential is a privilege, not a right. The ABC board of directors maintains legal authority to award its certification credentials. ABC reserves the right to withhold, suspend or revoke a certification credential in accordance with established procedures.
If you wish to obtain recognition of your ABC credential from an insurance provider, you may want to use our sample recognition letter as a guideline.
