History & Mission
In 1948, a group of concerned practitioners and orthopedic surgeons recognized the Orthotist/Prosthetist as an integral part of the rehabilitative team responsible for returning the patient to a productive and meaningful life. For over 50 years ABC has been credentialing individuals qualifying for application and demonstrating through examination the high standards for certification established by the ABC Board of Directors. This credentialing history allows ABC to produce programs and standards of the highest caliber for patients, facilities, and practitioners.
Mission Statement
The mission of the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics Inc. is to establish and promote the highest standards of organizational and clinical performance in the delivery of orthotic, prosthetic and pedorthic services. The ABC advances the competency of practitioners, promotes the quality and effectiveness of orthotic, prosthetic and pedorthic care, and maintains the integrity of the profession.
